DJ HEPLER DOMINATES 12th ANNUAL WATERMELON CLASSIC
July 19th, 2010
This past weekend the best racers across the deep south visited Aiken, SC for the 12th Annual Watermelon Classic. After 4 rounds of qualifying and a 45 minute A-main it was Hot Bodies/ TRJ Performance/ Torco Race Fuels team driver DJ Hepler that dominated the Pro Truggy class finishing a full 2 laps on Mugen/J-Concepts Greg Smith and Losi racing's and motocross legend Larry "Big Bird" Ward. On Saturday DJ took the TQ spot in 3 of the 4 rounds, and his dominance continued on Sunday. The 45 minute A-main started slow for DJ almost falling a lap down early, but once the field settled down and the tires came in, DJ was able to pass then race leader Greg Smith to move on for another controlling win. Congratulations DJ on your great run !!!

July 11th, 2010
This summer, Charlotte Motor Speedway will host a Legend Cars race to top them all. The race, to be held July 15-17, will have a $1 million purse. It is sure to be a spectacular event. Competitors who are competing in the Legends Million will be running in one of three divisions: Young Lions/Semi-Pro, Masters or The Legends Million, which is open to all drivers.
Each division will run heat races and an A-Main race, with the Legends Million A-Feature serving as the grand finale of the three-day event. However, there is a twist in the A-Main races for the Masters and Young Lions/Semi-Pro divisions, the details of which will be released at a later date. The winners of those two division A-Main races will earn an UNPRECEDENTED $30,000 and $25,000, respectively.
"It's going to be an amazing show," said Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway, "I can't wait to see what happens."
Rough night at the races
June 12th, 2010
The Gremlins, struck the 16H for the second week in a row. After resolving carb issues the week before that never let us take the track. Internal engine problems ended this night prior to the start of Ian's heat race at Rocky Creek Kartway in Great Falls, SC.
We made the 45 minute journey south of Charlotte to visit the 1/8th mile D shaped oval. The facility is nestled in a hillside, and offers some exciting racing. A big thank you goes out to Angie and everyone there for thier hospitality and efforts to get the kart back on the track. We will definitly be making the trip again after Ian's summer vacation.
Huge Improvements on track at Millbridge
May 31st, 2010
After some tough racing at Liberty we regrouped and set out for Millbridge Speedway in Salisbury, NC. It was a great night and by far the best night out since Ian started racing. The night started out on a positive note, qualifying 2nd for his heat. After a 10 lap heat Ian brought it home and finished 5th out of 6 karts.
The 20 lap feature would not disappoint the fans in attendance. The TRJ Performance/Torco sponsored Stalker started 5th and spun early after hitting a huge rut that developed in 3 & 4, after the restart he stayed on the high side, keeping away from all the ruts. This proved to be the fast way around the 1/8th mile clay oval and with 3 laps to go, Ian and his racing buddy Kyle Campbell went three wide, with Ian on the high side taking the 2nd spot while Kyle took the lead on the low side, thats how they ended. What an exciting great race and we are already looking forward to next week.
REDEMPTION ON KART MENU FOR THIS WEEKEND
May 27th, 2010
After a couple of weeks at Millbridge Speedway, two weeks ago TRJ Performance made its debut at Liberty Raceway, for round 2 of the prestigous King of the Clay series. While Ian was in the top 3 during both rounds of practice, once the sun hit the track and rubber was laid down, tires became the name of the game. The 16H's times slowed down during qualifying but still managed a descent starting spot. The feature, was a clean race with only 2 cautions, leaving the way for 20 laps of green flag racing. Contact in turn 2, halfway through the race after a restart slipped Ian from 5th to 11th, but was able to regroup for a respectable finish at a very fast, very tough track.
The next couple of weeks we will be racing back at Millbridge Speedway for some fun under the lights at the 1/8th mile Salisbury, NC clay oval. June 19th, we will be running at Volusia County Speedway just outside Daytona, Fl.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thanks our sponsors and supporters that have helped get us this far this year, Torco Race Fuels, Dover Power, Phantom Racing, Trac-Tac products, VSR race products, Checkered Flag Racing, Rev-RC Graphics and Jeff Craig Racing.
IAN HABIUK TAKES TO THE TRACK
.jpg)
April 21st, 2010
Ian Habiuk, the son of TRJ Performance owner Tim Habiuk. Successfully made his karting debut at the age of 7 this past weekend at Millbridge Speedway in Salisbury, NC. After qualifying on the pole, Ian lead a hard race until the rookie set in, after a couple of quick spins he was able to bring it home to a 3rd place spot in his heat. In the feature Ian held on to the third spot until a run in with the second place kart on the backstretch relegated him to the rear of the field, after regrouping he was able to pull of a top 5 in his first outing.
With some set-up changes made and tire tweaking look for big improvement in his next outing.
